Tech Giant HP Enters Cannabis Space With Compliance Leader Flowhub

Offering a new model of security and compliance to marijuana dispensaries throughout North America is Flowhub, the Denver-based business who announced on Wednesday a deal to marry their cannabis compliance software with global tech giant HP’s ElitePOS Retail Point of Sale Terminal. More than just a digital cash register, Flowhub’s software leverages HP’s retail-hardened ElitePOS to help dispensary owners in highly regulated states automate reports, bringing much-needed stability to the seed-to-sale space.

Praising their partner, Kyle Sherman, CEO of Flowhub recognized HP’s innovation in the hardware world.

“Retailers in this industry are bombarded with hobbyist software solutions with consumer hardware choices that cause compliance and operation headaches. Flowhub is excited to offer professional retail standard solutions that you’d find in other industries,” he continued.

With their metrc integrated compliance and business management platform, Flowhub helps marijuana dispensary owners navigate state regulatory agencies and the minefields that can follow. Reports, which are automatically sent through the metrc API, now work with the HP POS hardware systems.

“The largest amount of friction in the (cannabis) industry today is the lack of understanding around compliance for dispensaries,” Sherman said in an interview with The Cannabist. “I think this will simplify the decision-making process for them.”

The agreement is HP’s first foray into the marijuana industry, though the deal is part of a larger trend of mainstream companies entering the cannabis sector. The most well-known company to do so, arguably, has been Scotts Miracle-Gro, the family-friendly weed and feed business built off the back of big box stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot. Recent numbers suggest Scott’s is earning upwards of $250 million annually in the cannabis space.

“HP is delighted to have our ElitePOS point-of-sale system selected by Flowhub for this comprehensive solution targeted to the growing Cannabis industry,” remarked Aaron Weiss, HP’s Vice President and General Manager for Retail Solutions in a statement. “Flowhub is one of the original metrc approved vendors with years of compliance experience, and HP is delighted to be a key part of the solution in this exciting new regulated industry.”

Both new and existing Flowhub customers can purchase HP retail hardware and receive three years on-site Next Business Day limited warranty. For more information, dispensary owners and managers can visit,
