Tennessee running back John Kelly and linebacker Will Ignont are set to return to court next month to face misdemeanor drug charges.

On Thursday, Knox County General Sessions Court Judge Chuck Cerny scheduled a preliminary hearing for Dec. 13. Neither player appeared in the courtroom.

The charges stem from an Oct. 24 traffic stop on Cumberland Avenue near 11th Street, when police searched the vehicle the two were traveling in after officers allegedly smelled marijuana coming from the car.

Neither player claimed possession of the 4.6 grams of marijuana police say they found, along with a glass pipe, in the center console, according to an incident report.

Kelly, 21, was cited for misdemeanor drug possession, driving without proof of insurance and a broken headlight. Ignont, 19, was cited for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.Tennessee coach Butch Jones issued a one-game suspension for both players, who sat out UT’s Oct. 28 game against Kentucky.
