Members of the Hays County Narcotics Task force and San Marcos police made the bust after receiving a tip about suspicious activity at an apartment complex on Craddock Avenue.
Officers saw the men, identified as Jack M. Maniscalco, 56, and Mason Dean Maniscalco, 22, loading large cardboard boxes into a blue pickup.
Police pulled the men over in the 200 block of Sessom Drive and found the drugs and cash, along with a police radio, police said.
Authorities said the marijuana was likely smuggled into Texas from out of state, and was going to be sold in San Marcos.
“Marijuana that is produced in states where medical or recreational use is legal is often diverted to other states, such as Texas, where it is resold at substantial profits,” said Sgt. Wade Parham, commander of the Narcotics Task Force. “The San Marcos Police Department and Hays County Sheriff’s Office remain committed to fighting the illicit drug trade on a local level, as we firmly believe that it makes our communities safer.”
Both men were charged with possession of marijuana, a third-degree felony, and money laundering, a state jail felony.
On Friday, they were each being held at the Hays County Jail on an $18,000 bail.
