A teenage student has been detained after three students at a North Carolina high school got sick from eating a cereal bar laced with cannabis.
Three students at the Perquimans County High School in Hertford reported that they were nauseous and needed to be taken to the hospital on Monday.
‘All the parents of those involved were contacted and the students were checked out at the hospital for nausea and were released,’ said the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post.
The 14-year-old student was charged with one count of possession of marijuana and three counts of selling and delivering the drugs, according to the Virginian-Pilot.
The teen, said to be in the ninth grade, gave the edible to her three classmates.
‘They was just acting weird, acting crazy, laughing, giggling, being disruptive,’ Alanah Murphy, a senior, explained to WTKR.
One of the student’s mothers said that her daughter texted her about feeling sick before the school called and said that the teen was very sick.
She said the student was given a Rice Krispies treat from her childhood friend. The mom plans on pressing charges.
The Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office released another statement stating that it does routine K9 runs in the school and on the nearby grounds.
The statement added that the there would have needed to be multiple K9 units to cover the vast school.
