Large amounts of marijuana found along the shore in Santa Barbara

Captured on video, marijuana scattered along the surf line in Santa Barbara.

A significant amount of pot was found along West Beach on April 7. A viewer made NewsChannel 3 aware of the video that has been circling around on social media. It shows two men collecting pot on shore between Sea Landing and Stearns Wharf.

“Smuggling is a possibility,” said Erik Engberetson, Harbor Patrol Supervisor in Santa Barbara.

The Harbor Patrol isn’t ruling smugglers out. Harbor patrol was first told about the pot back on March 31st. That’s when a dredge company called them saying they saw what appeared to be marijuana floating in the water.

“We don’t know if this product was a result of the dredging operation or if it washed onto shore,” said Engberetson. “We did pick up some of the substance and disposed of those.”

Harbor patrol say that other agencies including the federal government is looking to the situation.
