RAWLINS (WNE) -– A routine traffic stop conducted by the Rawlins Police Department on the 1200 block of E. Cedar Street over the weekend led to the discovery of approximately 300 pounds of marijuana, authorities say.
Around 7:40 p.m. on Sept. 15, a U-Haul van was apprehended after being clocked on speed radar traveling eight miles over the 30 MPH speed limit, according to a Rawlins Police Department press release.
Upon apprehension, the arresting officer noticed that the driver, Jesse Wright (age and origin not reported), was acting nervously and was visibly shaking. After questioning, Wright couldn’t produce a rental agreement for the vehicle, while inconsistencies were found in his explanation of his departure and destination points.
Subsequently, the officer called for a K-9 unit to be dispatched to the scene. It was then, according to the release, that Wright admitted to having a “load of marijuana” in the vehicle.
Once on-scene, the canine signaled a positive indication of controlled substances being in the vehicle.
Under Wyoming State Statute, being that Wright possessed more than three grams of marijuana, he faces a felony violation.
