A Gadsden man was arrested on drug charges after authorities found him passed out in a store parking lot.

Gadsden police were dispatched Sunday to a wreck call at a outside of a business on Walnut Street, said Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit Deputy Commander Phil Sims. When they arrived, they found 45-year-old Fernando Miliner unresponsive in a vehicle. He was taken to the hospital.

Further investigation showed, Sims said, that there was one pound of high-grade marijuana in the vehicle, as well as a .38-caliber pistol and $16,239 in cash. Task force investigators were then summoned to the scene.

After Miliner was released from the hospital, he was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center. During a search of Miliner at the jail, officers found a small bag of crack cocaine in his pants pocket.

Miliner, who already was on community corrections for previous drug-related arrests, is now charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. He is being held in the jail on bonds totaling $60,000.
